HOW CAN IT HELP ME?
MASSAGE CAN HELP:
• Alleviate issues such as back, shoulder and neck pain
• Improve range of motion and increase joint flexibility.
• Ease medication dependence.
• Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow—the body’s natural defence system.
• Exercise, stretch and relax weak, tight and tired muscles.
• Help athletes of any level prepare for, and recover from, strenuous workouts.
• Improve the condition of the body’s largest organ—the skin.
• Decrease depression, stress and anxiety.
• Promote tissue regeneration, for example reducing scar tissue.
• Improve circulation and digestion.
• Release endorphins—amino acids that work as the body’s natural painkiller.
WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION?
Your first session will include a free initial consultation so that we can agree the aims of the treatment best suited to you and your needs. In subsequent sessions we will establish how you are and what the focus of the session will be so that we can work together and provide a tailored massage. At the end we will have a brief informal reflection and discuss aftercare or a treatment plan as appropriate.
WILL IT HURT?
It is a myth that massage has to hurt to be effective and one intensive and painful massage will not get rid of the knots that may have taken a lifetime to build up. Everyone has different tolerance levels and whichever is your preferred pressure it should never hurt more than the original pain itself. When working to help problem areas some discomfort is expected as you are working to relieve the pain but it should never be above your tolerance level.
The appropriate levels of depth are achieved by feedback from the receiver during the session as to what you are experiencing in your body and where your levels of tolerance are.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE A MASSAGE?
The frequency will depend on your individual circumstances such as health, finances and why you have come for a massage. A one of massage can be helpful but a massage from at least once a month to every two weeks will provide real benefit. Undoing issues built up over a lifetime or from a particular set of circumstances is best achieved with an integrated program set between you and the massage therapist.
WHEN SHOULD I NOT HAVE A MASSAGE?
If you have a serious or chronic medical condition, for example including but not limited to cancer, cardiovascular conditions or heart disease, thrombosis, phlebitis, edmea, fractures, severe acute back pain, fever, infections or contagious diseases, or you have concerns of any kind, always check with your doctor before proceeding on a course of massage therapy.
